We can’t promise that, and neither can anyone else. Your insurance company makes the call, and it looks at your roof’s age and its condition.
A treatment doesn’t change the year your roof went on. What we can give you is proof of condition: photos of every slope, and the warranty papers if we treat it. That’s something real to put in front of your agent.
What TDI proposed on Sept 29, 2026
On Sept 29, 2026, the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) proposed a rule change. Under it, insurance companies couldn’t turn down or refuse to renew a home policy based on the age of the house or its roof. They could still decide based on “the physical conditions of the home or its components, such as roofing.”
One word matters there: proposed. It isn’t law yet. TDI is taking public comments until Nov 9, 2026, and the final version could change. You can read TDI’s Sept 29 announcement for yourself.
Age still shows up when a claim gets paid
TDI also explains that some policies pay less based on the age and condition of your home. It calls that actual cash value. A treatment won’t roll back your roof’s age in that math. For TDI’s worked example of a 10-year-old roof, see our guide to roof age and home insurance in Texas.
What to hand your agent
Call your agent before you book anything. Ask two questions. Does my policy care about roof age, roof condition, or both? And would a photo report of a sound roof help at renewal? Then bring paper.
- The photo report from our free roof inspection, with every slope on camera.
- If we treat the roof, the written terms of Bright Green Roof’s 5-year transferable warranty that the shingles stay pliable and flexible.
- Your receipt, with the date of the work.
Then let your agent tell you what counts. That’s their call, not ours. Want the photos in hand before your renewal comes up? Book the free assessment, or call or text Chris at (281) 466-7436.
